This month, we’ve explored ways to improve career development and advancement opportunities through the lens of mentorship.

Every practice, including yours, can benefit from creating a mentorship program. From finding a mentor to determining whether you’re ready to be a mentor, we’ve covered all the bases—including how to get started.

And, if you’re looking to dive even deeper into mentorship, the 2023 AAHA Mentoring Guidelines and Toolkit are truly can’t-miss resources.

However, we know there’s more to career development than just mentoring—like providing clear steps for advancement. This is of particular importance for certain roles, like technicians and assistants, so that they understand where they are, what they can strive for, and what they need to do to get there.

And, of course, you can’t talk about career development without talking about continuing education! Learning new (or sharpening existing) skills is crucial when working to level up in your career, regardless of your role, and AAHA’s Guidelines Certificates are a fantastic way to do that from the comfort of your own home. Gain new knowledge on anesthesia, diabetes management, nutrition, and more on your schedule—and earn a shiny new (digital) badge along with your CE credits!

If in-person learning opportunities are more your speed, we hope to see you September 12–14 in National Harbor, Maryland, for AAHA CON 2024! With both medical and nonmedical tracks to follow, there will be plenty of sessions to inspire every member of your veterinary team.
